Pizza Friday

What better way to celebrate being snowed in than with pizza and beer?!! I know, I know, you’re saying, “Heather, this is supposed to be a healthy living blog, what are you doing?!”

Well part of living a healthy life in my book  is enjoying pizza and beer :) It makes me miss the college days when we were all stuck in the dorm anyways so we’d grab whatever we could and go sledding, then all pile in one tiny room and order pizza and drink beer. Sigh.

Except these days instead of cases of Bud Light I’m enjoying a sophisticated (ha) Rising Moon—Blue Moon’s spring brew. I guess they were hoping the groundhog might not see his shadow?!

With a nice orange slice, of course.

Before I had my own little beer and pizza party I celebrated Nutella Day with a multi-grain English muffin, almond butter, and NUTELLA!! I just happened to have a little sample pack lying in the pantry….I hope processed chocolate spread doesn’t have an expiration date. ;)

Speaking of English muffins—they are a prime example of why you should read Nutrition Facts labels and not just believe the “blurbs” on the front. The “High Fiber” version has considerably less than the “Multigrain” version! (And they’re both made with enriched whole grain flour.)

Off to go watch Twister on tv—such a good movie!!

Channeling the Mediterranean

So I’m super bummed… my Wear Red event today was cancelled because of crappy weather. :( It’s rescheduled for next Friday, so I guess I just have to be patient.

Actually, all of my weekend plans are getting cancelled (except work). I hope it clears up by Sunday so people can still come over for the Super Bowl!

I made a Mediterranean-inspired pizza wrap for lunch.

Laughing Cow Light Swiss cheese, turkey, artichokes, sun-dried tomatoes, feta cheese, dried basil, and pepper. Yum!

And a banana and some almonds to round it out.

One of my winter running essentials is my Nike headband/earwarmer. Can’t run in the cold without it! An added bonus is that it keeps my hair out of my face. I lost a lot of hair when I was in the height of dealing with my foot issues, and thankfully it’s started growing back in. However, it looks ridiculous- I have tiny short hairs sticking up all over the place, especially where my bangs would be. My headband has been keeping them from annoyingly hitting my face.

But what am supposed to do when it gets warmer? Be the idiot wearing earwarmers and dripping sweat?! Rebecca over at Bondi Band was kind enough to send me a sample to try out! (She said Bondi Bands were great for winter or summer, so if you’re like me and don’t like hair in your face you might want to check them out!) They’re made out of a wicking material that helps absorb sweat, which is cool.

Yesterday on my run I gave it a try.

It was really comfortable and didn’t slide around. I didn’t really realize I was wearing it. I’d say it’s a good intermediate between really cold and warmer weather.

However, when I pushed it back behind my ears (they way I would wear it in the summer), it kept sliding off the back of my head. I guess my head’s not big enough? And my husband told me I looked like Aunt Jemima.

Later I tried folding it in half to make a skinnier headband, which was more comfortable but you couldn’t see the super cuteness of it :)

So overall, I liked it for keeping my ears warm, but not sure about warm weather running yet! There’s TONS of cute designs over at Bondi Band’s website, so go check them out.  Here’s some coupon info if you’re interested:

On a workout note, it’s icy and gross so running outside is a no go, yet again. AND the gym is CLOSED?!?!?!!!! GAH!!!! What am I supposed to do, run circles around my living room?!

What do you do to avoid cabin fever?! Maybe I should have saved that bath for today. hmph.

No Overnighters

A random sense of planning came over me last night and I decided to make overnight oats. My oat combo from my smart-move-moment yesterday, plus a little almond milk and Greek yogurt.

After a night in the fridge I was presented with this:

overnight oats

I took a bite, but I really prefer my oats warm, so into the microwave it went!

Plus I added some cottage cheese :)

It was a battle between the almond butter and the peanut butter….I just couldn’t let one win over the other, so both it was. :)

I don’t really see the point of overnight oats. (Unless you like them cold I guess). It doesn’t make the end result any creamier or thicker or anything-er. I actually prefer the way the oats swell when they absorb the liquid when they’re heated. Maybe I’m missing something here….

Are you wearing RED?! I’ll be back later this afternoon to tell you why I’m wearing red today!
