NEW SHOES!!!!

I have been a tried and true Asics DS Trainers fan since I can remember. I still have a pair that was made in like 2000 because I love them so much (don’t worry- I don’t run in them!). I ran my first half in DS Trainers. When I first started having foot issues, the first thing I did was go get new shoes.

I tried to give all the shoes a fair shot, I did. But it came down to two: the new DS trainers, and Mizuno Inspires. I realllllly liked the way the Mizunos felt, but I was an Asics girl. I wavered back and forth for about a week, and then went with what I’d always worn.

I think either should would have been fine, but these shoes didn’t spark my love affair like my old DS Trainers. They didn’t hung my feet and cause an instant sensation of comfort. I figured I need to break them in. But they still to this day aren’t that comfortable.

When I saw this Running Warehouse sale I knew it was my chance. I went for the Mizunos that had been lingering in my mind ever since.

I can’t wait to try them out! Not today though because it’s raining. I have a thing about my shoes getting dirty. I also got some new socks because I’ve never had an “running” socks!

The benefit of having my “long runs” scheduled for Sundays is that I can stop by the park on my way home from work.

(That pictures isn’t from today- I didn’t bring my camera today in case it might get wet). It was chilly, wet, and cloudy, but I managed to avoid most of the actual rainfall during my run. I was aiming for about 5 miles. I think I ended up doing between 5.2 and 5.6. This is where having a Garmin or something  else would come in handy. I knew a 4 mile route through the park, and about a 6 mile route, so I tried to split the difference. I used MapMyRun and Gmaps Pedometer to estimate and I got 5.2 and 5.6. I’m going with 5.6 🙂 No matter how far I went, I ran for 58:58. About 10:31 pace if it was 5.6. Well, you’re supposed to go slow on a long run right? (I think it’s silly calling it a long run when it’s so short, but it’s longer than the mid-week runs).

Since I didn’t know mileage, I made up my own splits during the run so I can compare them another time if I feel like it. When I crossed one street I was at 29 min and another 44 min. Highly scientific, I know.

I started feeling a couple pains here and there around what I’m guessing was 3.5 miles, but nothing serious. My feet really started hurting about when I was getting to the point I was guessing I needed to turn around for 5 miles, which worked out well. I decided to cut back through the grass to ease the pounding- I should have realized that dirt + rain = MUD. Serious mud! I tried to avoid the worst of it, but one spot tricked me. I could instantly feel cold + wet on my socks. Oh well. I made like a football player and quick-foot-drilled it out of there.

Good thing I didn’t wear the new shoes!!!!

I had about 1/4 of a Lemon Zest Luna Bar before my run and another 1/4 after.

Then I went home and made lunch!

 wrap and fruit

A whole wheat wrap with brown mustard, turkey, spinach, red onion, basil, and mozzarella cheese. Zapped in the microwave.

I gave the Sugar Cooke Sleigh Ride another shot, this time with milk. I still don’t see what all the fuss is about. I think it kinda tastes like those old fashioned butterscotch hard candies watered down.

With a pile-o-fruit on the side. Some orange slices and couple of blueberries.

Now off to write a paper! Happy Sunday!

haha I havent worn my new running shoes in the rain either. I didnt want them to get dirty partly because theyre so shiny and pretty, and partly because I was afraid they wouldnt work and I’d have to take them back.

That looks like an amazing running path – I wish we had one around here I could run on!

There is nothing like a new pair of sneakers – i’m like you – I hate getting them dirty!

    Great run and delicious lunch.

Love the shoes! I also tend to wear Asics. I always look at different brands but always go back. Don’t fix what isn’t broken, right?

I’m an Asics girl at heart too, but can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the new pair. It’s always exciting to finally start afresh with some new sneaks. 😀

What a pretty run! I’ve been a Pearl Izumi girl for about a year now. They fit quite a bit like Asics do (I wore Asics for 7 years before making the switch) but they have a bit more room in the toe box.
